Our Mission
At Sail into Reading, we believe owning books is an important way to inspire new readers and create a passion for reading. By delivering books to deserving children through our summer program, we aim to engage new readers and lessen learning loss that can happen over summer break.

We seek to partner with schools across Rhode Island that:

Have > 80% Free/Discounted lunch participants (schooldigger.com)

Are located in area where >25% of the population is below the poverty line
Our Approach
Who we are
As parents of a Charter School teacher and grandparents to young boys who want for nothing, we saw first-hand the socio-economic gap impact on learning. We love Public Libraries and also believe every child should have books to build their own library so there is always something to read.

We started Sail into Reading in 2020 as a small step we could take in our Ocean State of Rhode Island to ensure no child is left behind. Since beginning this endeavor, we have tripled the number of children enrolled. Our goal is to expand our reach to positively impact over 1000 children by 2027.
